OK so I did OK....

Well the Clemson Tri was this weekend. I did pretty good for myself. I finished first in the Clydesdale division and ran a 5k under 20 mins for the first time ever. I thought that was great. I was more pumped about that then finishing first.

The tri was well organized and just well done with volunteers. The swim was in part of Lake Hartwell. They had some problems with fog that morning and couldn't place the bouys until 5 mins before the start of the whole event. I felt as if they were moving but I couldn't really tell. The water was warmer then the air at this time. So a lot of people were chattering their teeth after being in the water to warmup. As we start in waves, anyone that has done this knows that you are pounded from all angles for about 200 meters. After you find your spot you are pretty much set until the turns when everyone balls up. Out of the water and trying to get out of my wetsuit was a little difficult. It also had been rubbing the back of my neck raw, which I didn't feel until after the event was over.
Hopped on my bike and started pounding. I did ok. I got tired after the hills were done but I felt really good. Half way on the bike I just hit a hammer gel which seemed to help. Got in the tranisition area and slipped on the running shoes and I was off.
One of my training buddies was just in front of me by 30 seconds or so. So I picked him out and just focused on him. He is a better biker then a runner so I figured I could get him. I just got in a pace and locked in. There was a big hill in the middle of the course that I was saving for. So once I topped the hill, I WAS GONE! I turned on the juice, flipped the switch, or whatever you want to call it. At the turn around I had caught my buddy. Then was gone. I finshed with a 19:42 5K!!!! YEA BABY! I was very pleased.
Awesome race, not just because I did well but the run course is fun and the bike course is a little bit challenging and the swim is long enough to knock people out of the running during that part. All in all Set-up inc did a great job as usual and my buddies did well and no one was hurt.
Here are some pictures... ENJOY AND HAVE A GOOD WEEK.
