I am an IRONMAN...

Well I will have a more detailed race report later today posted but here are the basics.

Swim: 1:10:59
T1: 8:54
Bike: 6:06:21
T2: 6:40
Run: 4:29:41
Total: 12:02:34

The swim was cool for the first lap, just a lot of people trying to get from point A to point B. The second lap of the swim I seemed to get off course a whole lot. The waves really seemed to knock me around at the turn buoys but once I saw the coast I pounded it out and tried to keep people to the left and right of me so I could swim with some type of proper form. The bike was grueling. There was a head wind for the first 50 miles and then off and on for another 20 miles throughout the course. I have a list of what I really disliked about the IRONMAN, which this will be one of them but it wasn't the course or the wind it was the annoucer feeding us information about the course. I believe I bonked for the first time ever and it was on the bike. I was prepared to be banging out 20mph but it was more like 17mph for the first half. I was getting mad and probably the reason I bonked because I tried to hammer out of my funk. I got to mile 70 and I wanted off the bike. I pushed on and got to the run and I felt for the first time in the race like I knew what I was doing. I felt like I was in my environment for the first time all day. Great run and fun to cheer on people and to hear others telling you great job. I was pumping my arms when I was coming to the finish telling people to get loud and then I let out a huge scream when I finished, which might mean my finish photo will have me doing a tribal scream with my ugly face on. Anyway, thanks for keeping up to date out there and all the prayers and emails. More to come later...

I actually have some work to do after lunch. This is a first so I better get to it.

Funny that the segment you were worried most about is the one that turned out to be the best for you. Congrats again, Iron Ashley. :)
