Well what do we as people and athletes do, when something like the tragedy that occurred at Virginia Tech, when something major happens? There will be plenty of organizations donating money and running events to help the families with their loss. Same thing can be said for cancer research and other devastating occurrences. For instance, my Uncle David passed away recently from cancer and I was really affected by the life he lead and was left wondering how can I help so other people aren't left wondering why...
This week has challenged me to look "outside" myself. As a christian I try to do that with the relationships I have with people or with people I see in need, but in a bigger sense of things what can we as normal everyday people do to help others. We aren't Micheal Vick that can simply drop 10,000 bones to help these families, which on a side note is a joke with the amount of money that guy pulls in every year but he is at least thinking of them and not "Ron Mexico" or his water bottles.
I guess I would love to challenge myself and others out there to really touch someone this week!!! NOT NEXT MONTH OR SOMETIME THIS YEAR. I mean this month. For instance, I have an acquaintance with a kid that went to our church that is off at college. He happens to be Korean and quiet. Not a good mix for what happened this week. I really want to let him know that what happened this week he shouldn't allow others to run over him because of who God made him. I really worry about him from time to time and pray for him, not only for this weeks happenings, because he is very new (AND LEGAL) to America and it is very easy for us "Americans" to take advantage of people that are open and vulnerable like my friend. Back to the point, just get out there and lift someone up today and talk to them and let them know you actually are interested in their lives and want to help them.
I will get off my soapbox. Enjoy the funny picture...
