This weekend was the Clemson Triathlon and Mother's Day all in one. To start the weekend I had to travel to Clemson and run the tri. Well I was expecting much from myself since I had only been really training for this in the last 4 weeks. I had been running but that was so I wouldn't balloon up to 250.
Anyway, I was very relaxed for the start of the race and just told myself to get out there and rock this joint. The swim was as good as I could do for swimming 4 times since Nov of last year. The funny thing is I had a better swim time this year than last year but I was all over the place last year. Felt good on the bike until the last mile or so and then my calf started to cramp on the stroke down on the bike. It stayed that way through the first half mile and then it went away. The run was tough but they removed the big hill that they had last year so the course this year was rolling and seemingly longer. Anyway, I was comfortable for the rest of the run and I passed the 3rd place clydesdale with about a mile to go and he picked it up and stayed on my tail. I had nothing to give once he made his move. That is what the lack of training gives you. I couldn't put him away and I couldn't catch him. Ohh well. My buddy took first so I at least was handing it to someone cool and not some jerk! He did well and is a better swimmer this year then last year and is a good cyclist anyway. He stays the same for his run for pretty much every event.
Now one of the cool things about triathlon and running and just staying fit is running into people that have lost 175 pounds and are at their first event. That is what is cool about doing this stuff. Yea I finished 4th and would have loved to have finished 1st again, but I didn't put up the effort to give myself a chance. These people are out there just to survive and change their lives for the better so they can live longer with their loved ones. Pretty cool seeing some of that in action. I believe that was the mindset change I needed after this weekend.
OK Mother's day was very cool. After the tri I used a carpet cleaner to clean some of the floors I have made a mess on and the stairwell, where Tobias made his mark with some puke! Anyway, that was part of my gift with some chocolates for the Wife. She has something even nicer coming, just didn't order it in time to get here before Mother's Day. Ohh well. Tobias did great for his first Mother's day and seemed to enjoy hugging his mommy for the day. Very cool kid!
Well I will have some big news coming in the future about my tri future because I may have just changed it up.
Have a good day and PEACE OUT!
