Well I didn't have much to do yesterday and so I read some race reports about Ironman Wisconsin. THIS ONE made me hurt from the inside out. I usually get really anal about things and could totally see myself going through some of the same things this guy felt. Forgetting bottles, not have proper clothes, etc. You name it and I will probably do it. So it got me to thinking what would be the times I would be happy with in best and worst case situations.
Best case:
Slight breeze from the beach with no major current issues in the ocean. Slight breeze on the bike course with slightly overcast day with temps in the mid to high 60's. Same for the run but stays a little warmer as night comes.
Time: 11hrs 30min
Worst case:
hurricane is coming: Major gusts with high rollers coming in from the ocean. High winds with rain on the bike course. Rain and wind on the run.
Time: 14hrs
HOT AS ALL GET OUT: Humid and hot but good conditions for the swim. Bike course is brutally hot and humid. Same for the run course until night comes but the damage is done.
Time: 14 to 15 hrs
This is what is constantly going through my head recently. See I am really looking forward to being able to finish an Ironman in under 12hrs. I think that would rock but at the same time if the worst case scenarios occur I don't want myself to feel as if I am a loser or something. I don't know. I am just planning on going out there and doing the best I can on that day. My true test is the SC Half Ironman coming up on Oct. 1st. I am ready and can't wait to get out there and mix it up. I just hope a poor performance there doesn't carry over to the Ironman. That will be what I will have to mentally work on after that race.
The one thing I don't always do during a race is talk to myself. Reading the above article makes me think if I should or if my praying and just singing songs or just being totally blank will effect me. Isn't that weird? I mean I am preparing myself for a physical event but the one thing I read from race report to race report is how mental Ironman is. Am I mentally prepared? I don't know, but I will tell you this. I will be out there mixing it up and ready to go!!

That doesn't sound like a real worst-case scenario to me! Let's see.... five flats on the bike course? A girl I know had that. How about vomiting for the first several miles of the run? That's not uncommon.... Lots can happen!! Hopefully you won't need to deal with the REAL worst-case scenarios!! Good luck!
Thanks for the help!
man that was some trifuel report on IMmoo. Best case, worst case. I will deal with what hand is dealt to me. I tend to be overly catious. A boy scout I have been called and over-prep for 'challenges' like weather and such.
No matter what happens in training, an Ironman race is a different beast. Expect the unexpected should be the motto not anything is possible
